Working with Family

Filed under: Advice, Common Sense — MerryS @ 6:48 pm

Have you made a decision to work with friends or family members? Many individuals find this to be a very enjoyable arrangement. However, there are countless others who find this situation to be problematic.

There are things you can do to make things run more smoothly. One of the most important things to remember is that there will be occasional disagreements no matter how hard you try to be accommodating. It’s just human nature.

In the beginning, you need to sit down and discuss things. It is much better to get things out in the open right from the start. Go over job responsibilities and tell your family member exactly what is expected from him. Explain that he will be treated just like any other employee.

If this will be a business partnership, discuss which areas he will be responsible for and the things you will be deciding on as a team. Go over things like vacation days, when he will be paid, insurance options, etc.

Unfortunately, many people who hire friends or family members are taking advantage of in some way. Don’t let this happen to you! If you are straight forward from the start, as to what is expected, things should run much more smoothly.

Taking Time Off

Filed under: Advice, Physical energy — MerryS @ 6:25 pm

Whether you are working for yourself or someone else, it is important that you take time off to relax. Constantly working or worry about your work can be very unhealthy.

Obviously, if you are working for someone else it can be more difficult to take time off. Chances are you will have to abide by a vacation schedule of some kind.

Many businesses allow their employees to ‘save up’ vacation days. It is actually better for you to take several mini vacations throughout the year, as opposed to one longer one. Even two or three days off can leave you feeling refreshed and revitalized… even if you vacation in your own backyard.

When you do take time off, don’t take your work home with you. Many individuals make that mistake. There is no point of trying to relax, when you bring the office home with you.

(If it’s absolutely necessary to get things done, while you are away, limit your work time to a couple of hours a day.)

If you work for yourself, it is usually much easier to take time off here and there. Try to occasionally schedule a four-day work week. You will be surprised how rested you will feel after three days off.

Why Self-Confidence is Important

Filed under: Advice, Confidence — MerryS @ 6:41 am

It you are interested in starting your own business or acquiring wealth, self confidence is important. Individuals who exhibit this trait are much more likely to succeed… in everything they do.

These same people will probably tell you that their road to success seemed less rocky, most of the time, simply because they never lost faith in their abilities.

When you are self-confident, others notice this. Potential business partners will usually be more apt to invest in your venture when you believe in yourself and what you can accomplish. Make it know to them that you are unstoppable and will deliver as promised.

Self confidence is important if and when you hit a roadblock. (We all know that no business is immune to them.) It will help you to bounce back quicker and stay on track, in regard to your original business plan.

These roadblocks might even be friends or family members who doubt your business ability and don’t want to see you get hurt. Do your best to reassure them that you are, indeed, self-confident and capable of handling problems that might come up.

This trait is equally important when it comes to other aspects of your life. Everything from relationships to education to your health and well-being is affected by your confidence level.

Health Insurance

Filed under: Advice — MerryS @ 3:38 am

When you decide to go into business, for yourself, many things change… especially if you are leaving a job in the ‘traditional workforce’. Most of these changes are welcome and eagerly anticipated, a few however are not.

One of these changes that you might not be looking forward to is the lack of adequate health care coverage, which may or may not have been paid for by a previous employer.

If you are relatively young and in good health, you may not think that paying for your own health insurance is necessary. Unfortunately, no one is immune from the possibility of accident or illness. The unexpected can happen, at any time.

There are many reputable insurance companies that will issue health care coverage to the self-employed. By conducting research on a number of them, you will become better acquainted as to what they have to offer.

Whether you are in need of health insurance strictly for yourself or your entire family, you will be presented with several affordable options. Many of these providers offer dental and eye care coverage, as well.

Don’t put off purchasing adequate health care coverage. You never know when you might need it. As the saying goes… ‘it’s better to be safe, than sorry’!

Overcoming Procrastination

Filed under: Advice, Behavior, Procrastination — MerryS @ 9:10 pm

If you tend to be a procrastinator, you are not alone. Millions of individuals procrastinate occasionally. Of course, there are those that deal with procrastination on a much more frequent basis, as well.

Regardless of the group you fit into, there are things you can do to help you overcome this bad habit. Soon, you will find yourself completing tasks at a rate you never thought possible. Increased productivity is ALWAYS a good thing!

One of the best things you can do when overcoming procrastination is to make a list of the things you need to get done, over the course of a few days.

For best results, at least at the beginning, it should be a somewhat simple plan. Break tasks up in approximately 30 minute increments… that way it will seem as though you are getting more done. As you cross each step off of your list, you will be one step closer to completing that specific task.

Alternate projects you are not fond of with tasks you enjoy doing. Doing so will break up the monotony of the day and reduce the chances of lower productivity.

Make note of the interruptions that occur during your day. Try to prevent them in the future, once you have detected a pattern.

These are just a few steps in avoiding procrastination. With determination, you can ‘just say no’ to procrastination.

How to Make the Most of Your Stimulus Payment

Filed under: Advice, Personal finance — MerryS @ 11:37 pm

The majority of tax payers have already received or will be receiving a stimulus payment. Read on, for suggestions on how to get the most out of your stimulus check.

It is probably obvious that very retailer on the face of the earth is hoping that you will spend your windfall, on their merchandise. Many are even offering incentives, to convince you to shop with them.

However, if you are currently dealing with credit card debt it’s probably wiser to pay it down, instead of buying new merchandise that you really don’t need. Your money will go further if you pay off (or down) your highest interest credit card, first.

You also have the option of investing the money. Although nothing is guaranteed, there are many types of investments that are relatively safe. Financial experts often advise you to go with a variety of low cost mutual funds.

Another idea is to start an ‘emergency fund’, with the money. You never know when you might need money for car repairs or other unexpected occurrences. With the state of our current economy, most consumers are finding it increasingly difficult to keep up with the rising cost of everyday necessities… much less emergency situations.

Goals – Start Small

Filed under: Advice, Goals, Howto — MerryS @ 7:21 pm

If you find it somewhat difficult to achieve the goals you have set for yourself, in the past, don’t despair! There is still hope. Better yet, achieving these new goals is probably easier than you think.

The key to your success is this; start small. Achieve new goals in baby steps. After the first goal has been met, you will feel such a sense of accomplishment that you will want to try all the harder, to meet your next goal.

If your ultimate goal is to make $100 a day, via Internet marketing, it’s not going to happen overnight. If you set out with just that one goal, chances are, you will get discouraged very quickly. It takes time, dedication and hard work to build up to that income level.

BUT, if you take that same $100 a day goal and break it down into several smaller ones, you will be much more likely to reach your ultimate goal, in the end.

Tell yourself you want to make $10, per day. Yes, $10 is a long way from $100 but look at it as a stepping stone, of sorts. Once you have reached the $10 mark, set a second goal. Repeat the process until you are bringing in $100, on a daily basis.

Try a series of small goals. Success really is in your favor.

Self Hypnosis for More Success

Filed under: Advice — Jean @ 6:26 pm

Unfortunately, most of us are already masters of self-hypnosis. How many times a day do we mutter to ourselves, “That was stupid” or I’ cant believe you made such a mistake” or “now look what you’ve done”? These are all ways of giving us feedback that reinforces our behavior, which is a good working definition of self-hypnosis. However, we currently use this technique routinely to reproach ourselves. Little wonder mistakes are made.

It is time to use this technique to reinforce the positive elements that we need to incorporate into out daily lives to improve ourselves. Many individuals believe that there are several parts to each of us, both negative and positive. Self-hypnosis strives to integrate these different elements into a cohesive unit that pulls together as a team to affect change and action. Our cognitive brain controls our daily life and the tasks at hand, but when it comes to action, roadblocks are often throw up by the somatic, or dormant self, which isn’t really sure what it wants. It is necessary to reduce the differences between the cognitive self and the somatic self and its inhibiting activity. There is a deeper wisdom to this inhibition process, and it is quite important to honor this wisdom. Find a way of presenting information and possible changes to your somatic self, that your somatic self finds safe, and doable.

Self hypnosis relies upon the repetition of information to the somatic self that lets it relax its hold on our ability to act. In a way, hypnosis is the repetition of feedback that keeps assuring the somatic self that is safe to continue. As the technique progressed the resistance is overcome and both elements of ourselves work in tandem, which uses far less energy that the internal opposition did, to accomplish a goal.

The techniques used for self-hypnosis first involve clearing and calming the mind by deep breathing. Use this period of calm to review yourself and accepts the traits you see. Visualize the results that you want to achieve and become comfortable with all aspects of them. Let the elements of yourself discuss these goals and listen to the objections and reasons behind them. Continue to give positive feedback regarding your striving toward these goals, but do not judge the elements that are resisting. Simply accept the matters that are at odds without trying to force your cognitive desires over the other.

Change will happen when the conflict is resolved and when it is ready to come. You are creating a powerful positive feedback loop and you will be surprised one day when your energies become united to the task. Have you ever marveled at some who was stuck in their ways for years who suddenly made a great change in their lives? They usually report that the time came when they just had to do something. More likely they came to a point where their energies coalesced and allowed the individual to not only see what had to be done but had the coordinated responses to allow it to be done.

Personal development and growth

Filed under: Advice — Jean @ 12:10 pm

Personal development and growth is probably, aside from diets, the most written about topic you will find today. There are nearly limitless articles and books, self help tapes and CDs that all target our innate desire to change in ways we perceive as “better”. Most self-help projects today are scams try to convince u of the limitless riches we can attain if we unlock out personal powers. This usually involves buying something and the only thing here growing is the huckster’s bank account. Others offer self-assessment guides to determine just what about ourselves is wrong and needs improvement. These skirts are the true issues surrounding personal development and personal growth.

Personal development and personal growth are concepts that take into account the realistic fact that life changes as we live it and we must both grow and change to be equal to the challenges. As we leave adolescence behind and become adults, we are expected to be able to build our own lives and to weave a fabric of living that will expand with the changes we encounter. We may do this by choosing to develop a productive career or to have a family or by a combination of both, but it is generally not acceptable to not develop a path in life. The steps taken toward achieving these goals often force changes on us, and require that we grow and develop more skills to deal with them. This is the philosophy behind self-help.

Many people have come up with exercises and tips that have been useful to them, and will allow individuals to understand and to meet the various stages of his or her life. Some even prepare us in advance for these milestones, such as childbirth, marriage, and developing a career. Another form of serious self help, often takes the form of counseling or support groups, and targets those who have fallen behind in these stages or who left the loop entirely, such as alcoholics and drug addicts. These support groups often stress the stages of life, and recommend that the participant take a virtual journey through them to recreate where and how they began to falter. The next step is to try to reintegrate the addict into life at an appropriate stage.

One important aspect of growth and personal development is to clearly see what you want and expect from life. It is important to make these goals, even though they often change throughout the course of life, with and without out intentions. These goals are often enough for some lucky people to steer a steady course.

However many of us need more at some point. Growth and development programs and philosophies that enable us to focus on the positive aspects in out lives and formulate a positive and productive attitude are strong empowering elements. An optimistic attitude has been shown to be beneficial to all areas of life, from achieving success to fighting termini illness. It is often noted that optimists often fail more frequently in life that those with a more negative attitude, they just don’t incorporate the failure into their self-image, which continues to shine brightly. Doctors repeatedly cite the better prognosis that patients who remain optimistic about their treatment often enjoy. The power of positive thinking is no myth, and those programs and books that keep us in touch with this concept are valid tools for personal growth and development.

First things first. Period.

Filed under: Advice — Kava @ 8:43 am

Anyone who regularly begins completes a project and begins another will recognize that each project has a life of its own. It begins as an idea, continues as a work in process and ends with a realization of what worked and what didn’t work. It’s important to use that third portion of the life of a project in planning the next project on your list.

Take the time before beginning a brand new project to look at what has worked in the past in similar projects. Also serious decide what errors occurred in the past that either added to or detracted from the success of the project. Yes, even errors can lead to successes in the future.

Organizing yourself before beginning a new project takes part on two levels, the mental and the physical.

It is probably best to organize your physical space before settling to mental gymnastics.
Your physical space should be organized for several reasons. First, if you have space set aside where you will spend your working time, whether it is a completely equipped home office or a cubbyhole in a closet, the space should be as well-equipped for the type of work you do as possible. That certainly would include writing materials, computer or typewriter, reference books or materials. You will need a comfortable chair to sit in, positioned correctly for writing or working at a computer keyboard.

If your project involves the use of other tools or equipment, those should be available and arranged to be accessible near your seating place. Even if you work at home, your home office space should be equipped as well as is possible so that when you go to your space, it is with the mental shift which will allow you to begin work promptly.

Once your space is organized, you are ready to begin the other significant preparation phase of your project, the mental preparation. You should think through and jot down key words or thoughts to help you remember actions later on as you expand your basic ideas.
Consider each part of the project carefully in order. Try to ask yourself questions about the need for this organized step. Look at the order of the steps mentioned and play with them mentally. Try putting the steps in a different order and see how that might play..

As you mentally walk through the project you are planning, keep track of key points you will need to know in order to accomplish your task. Are there tools which will be needed that you don’t have yet? Is there information which will need to be researched before completing the planned project?

By the time you go through each step of your project mentally, noting additional research materials, tools and people which will be needed to complete the project, you should have a fairly complete project outline. Your next task is to begin the process of putting a time line with the various project components. You may want to jot down when you plan to begin, whether you have outside deadlines which must be maintained, and how much flexibility is available for the person in the barber shop.

With all this pre-planning you should have at least a rough outline of the phases of the project, what additional work will be required, any further research which you will need to complete the task and about how long it will require to finish the entire project.

10 Wealthy tips from millionaires

Filed under: Advice — Kava @ 3:36 pm

People are always looking for the secret to become wealthy. There is a common belief that it’s going to be just one little change that will make the difference between living from paycheck to paycheck and having enough extra to buy the dream possessions without thinking about the cost. In one sense, it is as easy as one little change. In another sense, it’s a whole new way of living and thinking about wealth.

Many books have been written purporting to tell you how to become wealthy; most of them have some of the same tips in common. By having an attitude of wealth, you have already taken the first step toward becoming what you want to be.

  1. Wealth isn’t the amount of money in the bank; it’s about an attitude of success. A study of the wealthiest people in America found that they spend only a few minutes per day on average on matters such as their bank account balance. They’d rather be doing what gives them pleasure. The money and the possessions are often just a footnote.
  2. Keep a positive attitude. If you can conceive it and believe it, you will achieve it.
  3. Think differently than others. Challenge your mind by taking a procedure that has always been done that way and figure out a different way to do it.
  4. Decide what you dislike doing the most and stop doing it. If you continue to do a task in quiet desperation no matter what the reason, you will never have the energy left over to do what you want to do.
  5. The other side of the equation in number 4 above is to find what you love to do and find a way to make it your job. Another trite old saying which is nevertheless true is: “Find a job you enjoy doing and you’ll never work a day in your life.”
  6. Determine to find out who the real you is. That could be through career counseling, reading, personality tests, even sitting down with a ream of paper and start listing all the things you like to do. Some people never take the time to discover who they really are.
  7. Become an entrepreneur. The opportunities are endless, particularly with the internet reaching more people every day. Books, courses, counselors and mentors are available to help you realize your dream of financial success. If you invest in yourself, you will succeed both in self-esteem and in financial matters as well.
  8. Live and enjoy every minute. Some have called it “Live with passion.” No matter what your surroundings, find a way to enjoy them. If you do what you enjoy, you will always have something to enjoy. If you only live for money, you will never have time to enjoy it.
  9. Live in the present. If you never truly enjoy the life you have as you pass through, because you plan to enjoy something after you retire, or after this next bonus arrives or after the kids are out of the house, you will have a life that’s truly bleak.
  10. Help others achieve. Share your positive attitude with those around you, even if you don’t have a dime to share. Your positive attitude will attract friends and that’s the true meaning of a successful life.
